Season End

What a season! We didn't have quite the finish we might have all hoped for, however winning the Region III Championship was certainly a worthy accomplishment. I refer to it as Region III still because I, and others who have been around awhile, liked it when it was Region III rather than the "Northern Lights Conference"

We had our end of the season awards banquet pretty darn close to the end of the season which made for some serious scampering to get ready in time, but it was a good time with a slide show, a really cool video, and of course the best part... Mr Thiede presenting the team with the new banner which i believe is supposed to be hanging in the gym now for all to enjoy. Thanks Mr Thiede!

Club season is now underway - but only just barely. I will be coaching a team for the first time in many years and am looking forward to it. We have picked a team and had one semi-official practice, although it was kind of impromptu and a couple of girls were not able to attend. J and I are looking forward to getting started for real soon.

Random things from the end of the high school season. Hm let me think... MM's hand is still in a cast following a bad set. Let this be a lesson to passers and setters everywhere. 1) we don't pass the ball to the setter by way of the ceiling! 2) setters - we don't set balls that come to us by way of the ceiling! we pass those. To my varsity team - Thank You! from all of us "coach types"

I'll see all you basketball players soon at a home game- until then Steve

Not Much

Thanks for checking in. I don't keep this page as current as I did in the off-season. Jayme has been keeping the main Palmer Volleyball Page well stocked with information and photos, so if you haven't checked it recently you should. palmervolleyball.blogspot.com Thanks Jayme!

We play twice this week which seems light after last week. It will be good to get some uninterrupted practice in later in the week.

I'm looking forward to seeing you all tomorrow

Again if you want lots of volleyball info check the main page

Colony vs Palmer

OK, I know i have been terribly bad about updating this page, but here we go!

Chugiak Invite was last weekend. Jame covered it nicely on the main Palmer Volleyball Page, so i will move to last night's 5 game thriller with Colony at their place.

Both teams played pretty evenly throughout. There were plenty of long rallies, great plays. and stressful moments. Here are some of my favorites in no particular order

Someone shanked a dig into the net MM got down below it waited for it to come out from the bottom of the net and passed up a perfect "2" set for a waiting KS. really a pretty play and a good example of patience during a play. The same MM teamed up with NC for many good blocks - unfortunately for Palmer - Colony covered their hitters very well! We blocked Colony's SH a bunch but it didn't matter they just kept picking it back up and setting up some new play. darn them anyway!

JA and DP were sensational from the serving line serving 25 and 26 points apiece very nice work there ladies. I was pleased to see the extra serving DP did after practice pay off like that.

Hitting- Everyone was hitting pretty well, and taking turns being the hot hitter KV bombed a few great shots. CG as well- we all like the CG cheer after the kills best of all. NC had the most kills for the night but MM thundered a "4" that was pretty darn spectacular. This makes me wonder who had the biggest thunderbolt last night? Hm.... I know KV had one that was pretty incredible, so di CG, NC and MM, JA too! hm ok I have no idea who i would give the huge hit award to

Setting- all three setters had their moments of brilliance MM"s was a "1" set to NC I think that was my favorite just because it was so pretty. JA put up some "4's" that i wished I'd been hitting and DP had some great backsets. Good performances from all three I'd have to say.

Many games are on the horizon for us so I am anxious to see what the team will do next. Keep working hard, and let's see where we can go.

Early Season

I have been reminded several times recently that i need to update my blog. OK, I'm on it!

The season is underway, we are getting through some of the random stuff that always happens in the beginning like pictures and a mountain of papers to sign and forms to fill out. Goodness! every day it's a new form!

The locker room project is finally kind of complete. I say "kind of" because we still need to get some old lockers moved out but overall it is coming together very nicely the parents and girls put a lot of time in on it and it looks really good. It's so nice to have a place to meet. Way to go! on that whole project.

All three teams begin playing this weekend with their respective jamboree's. Varsity is at Palmer beginning at 2:30 on Friday. C and JV are at Colony beginning at a similar time. If you want actual game times they are posted on palmervolleyball.blogspot.com

All of us coaches are having a good time with our teams and frantically trying to prepare for the early season play this weekend.

Varsity is a nice mix familiar and new faces. Some players are in familiar roles others will be filling new roles. It's a nice mix, and I'm looking forward to seeing where we go from here.

Oh! Team... I have to give you props on your work yesterday -specifically the last drill - everyone was working hard and looking good!

Cheerio!

Open Gym

I am the master of the understatement so I'll just say that open gym last night was really fun. It was great to see all the new faces, old friends, new freshmen, people returning from vacations, etc. I had a superb time- and I didn't even get to play. Thanks to all who came for making it so much fun!

See prior post for schedule information.
